Quick answer
Charming Skin & Vein Clinics offers two spider vein specials: one sclerotherapy treatment for $97.50, or two sclerotherapy treatments for $180. Both include a physical evaluation and a vein ultrasound, and both are available at the Chicago and Oak Brook clinics. Book by phone at 630-974-1400 or with the form on this page.
Which special is right for you?
If you have a small cluster of spider veins, such as one behind the knee or around the ankle, the single-treatment special is a simple place to start. If you have spider veins in several areas, or you would like a follow-up session, the two-treatment special covers both visits.
Spider veins often need more than one session to fade fully. Your evaluation is the right time to ask how many sessions your veins are likely to need.
What are spider veins?
Spider veins, also called thread veins, are small veins close to the surface of the skin. They are usually red, blue or purple and can look like tree branches or a spider web, most often on the legs or face. They form when small valves inside the veins stop working well and blood does not flow normally. According to the Office on Women’s Health, spider veins may affect more than half of women.
Common risk factors include a family history of vein problems, older age, pregnancy, carrying extra weight, sitting or standing for long periods, and hormone medicines that contain estrogen.

Why a vein ultrasound is included
Spider veins are usually a cosmetic concern, but they sometimes sit on top of larger veins that are not working properly. An ultrasound checks the blood flow in your leg veins and looks for weakened or leaky valves before the surface veins are treated.
If the scan shows a deeper problem, you will hear what it means and what your options are before any treatment. Learn more about ultrasound vein diagnosis.
What happens at your appointment
Call 630-974-1400 or send the form. Book at least 24 hours ahead.
A physical evaluation of your legs, symptoms and health history.
A non-invasive scan of the veins beneath the skin.
If it’s right for you, the spider veins are treated with small injections.

How sclerotherapy treats spider veins
Sclerotherapy is an in-office treatment. A very fine needle places a small amount of medicine, called a sclerosant, into the spider vein. The solution irritates the lining of the vein so its walls stick together and seal shut. Your body then gradually absorbs the closed vein, and blood flows through healthier veins instead.
Results take time. Cleveland Clinic notes that spider veins usually respond to treatment in three to six weeks, and that some people need more than one session. Read more about spider veins and how they are treated.

Recovery and aftercare
Most people drive home and go back to their normal activities after sclerotherapy, and walking is usually encouraged. You may be asked to wear compression stockings or wraps for several days to help healing.
Common side effects are temporary: bruising, redness where the needle went in, and brown lines or spots that usually fade over a few months. Sclerotherapy treats the veins you have now, and the Office on Women’s Health notes that spider veins can come back over time.
Is sclerotherapy right for you?
Your evaluation decides that. Sclerotherapy is not an option during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, or if you have an active blood clot in a vein. Tell the doctor about any past blood clots, your medications and your medical conditions so they can be reviewed before treatment.
Insurance and these specials
These specials are self-pay prices. Treating spider veins to improve how your legs look is generally considered cosmetic, and cosmetic treatment is typically not covered by insurance.
If your legs ache, swell, feel heavy, or show skin changes, that is different. Most PPO plans and Medicare cover treatment for symptomatic veins. Take the free vein self-assessment or book a free vein screening, and we will confirm your benefits before anything begins.
Where these specials are available

Common questions about our specials
Is this the same offer as on Groupon?
Yes. What is included and the prices match the two options Charming Skin & Vein Clinics lists on Groupon. You can book directly with our office, or buy a voucher through Groupon.
Does insurance cover spider vein treatment?
Usually not when the goal is appearance, which is why these specials are self-pay. If your veins cause symptoms such as aching, swelling or skin changes, book a free vein screening and we will check your PPO or Medicare benefits first.
How many treatments will I need?
It depends on how many spider veins you have and how they respond. Many people need more than one session. Ask at your evaluation how many sessions your veins are likely to need.
When will I see results?
Spider veins usually fade over three to six weeks after treatment. Larger veins can take longer.
What does sclerotherapy feel like?
The needle is very fine. Most people describe a mild pinching or cramping sensation as each vein is treated.
